Biber: Marian Vespers

Mozart: Mass in C major, K.317, ‘Coronation’

The Salzburg Connection. The city of Salzburg is indelibly associated with the name of Mozart, who lived and worked there for 25 years. But the city had a rich musical heritage going back over 100 years, particularly in church music. One of Mozart's most illustrious predecessors was Heinrich Biber, active as a violinist and composer at the turn of the seventeenth century. Tonight's concert will feature two items of church music first performed in Salzburg Cathedral, Biber's Marian Vespers (1693) and Mozart's 'Coronation' mass (1779).
